Saskatoon firefighters battled a blaze this morning in the bitter cold after a house caught fire in the 200 block of Avenue L South.

The call came in at 2:55 a.m. and when crews arrived there were flames and smoke showing from the house.

Two people at home at the time of the fire evacuated without injury, and prior to the fire department coming on scene.

Utility services were shut down and due to the extreme cold with temperatures that hovered near -35 overnight, and fire crews were rotated to put the fire out.

A fire investigator is on scene and an early estimate of damage is $150,000.

It is not known at this time if smoke alarms were in place and working.
