For the second day in a row, Saskatchewan has set a new record for power consumption.

According to a news release from SaskPower, at 6:01 p.m. Thursday night, Saskatchewan homes and businesses reached 3,910 megawatts of power used.

That broke the previous record set a day earlier of 3,868 megawatts in power used. The difference of 42 megawatts is equal to the power use of approximately 42,000 homes.

SaskPower says at the peak, the crown corporation had a “comfortable amount of capacity in reserve, should the demand rise even further.”
