SaskPower announced both Thursday and Friday as record breaking days for power use, and SaskEnergy has also announced a new daily natural gas usage record, because of the extreme cold. A news release from SaskEnergy says the previous daily record of 1.57 petajoules which was set in February of 2021, was broken on Tuesday with 1.62 petajoules, and then broken again on Wednesday with 1.64 petajoules of natural gas consumption.
Delivery numbers for December 30th and 31st aren’t yet finalized, but it’s expected the record will be broken again. SaskEnergy President and CEO, Ken From, says the Crown Corporation’s natural gas system design can accommodate additional capacity to manage increased consumption even on peak days.
