A low pressure system from Alberta moved into the province on Sunday morning, but will be  pushed out very quickly by cold Arctic air later in the day.

The mercury hit the low minus single digits in southern Saskatchewan with central areas around minus 10. However, the overnight low on Monday is expected to plunge to minus 27 degrees Celsius with a windchill in the minus 30’s. The quick variation in temperature will also bring some precipitation on Monday and Tuesday.

“We could see a decent amount of snow, maybe five centimetres in the Saskatoon area,” said Brad Vroljik, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Even colder temperatures are expected on Wednesday and will continue into the foreseeable future. Vroljik believes the extreme cold weather warnings will likely return later in the week.
