Natural gas usage in Saskatchewan has broken the record for the fifth time in the two weeks. Sask Energy reports that Wednesday through Thursday’s usage is estimated at 1.66 petajoules, surpassing the previous record set on December 29th. Consumption is measured over a 24-hour period from 9 a.m. to 9 a.m. the next day.

The Crown Corporation says prior to this winter, the previous record was set in February of last year. A news release from SaskEnergy explains that a a petajoule is the equivalent of a million gigajoules of natural gas, and an average Saskatchewan home consumes about 100 gigajoules in a year.
