There was a carbon monoxide issue at the Saskatoon Inn early this morning.

Saskatoon Fire Department says the call came in at 2:42 am reporting the smell of natural gas. Crews determined it was a carbon monoxide issue and not a natural gas leak. Readings were taken throughout the seven storey hotel and they determined the source of carbon monoxide was one of the heating units on the roof.

Fire crews had the hotel staff shut down the defective unit on the roof and the CO levels began to immediately decrease. The building was then ventilated using fans.

SaskEnergy remained on scene assisting fire crews and assessing the heating equipment. Carbon monoxide readings were down to zero by 6 a.m. this morning (frid).

There were no medical concerns or injuries among hotel staff or guests while the situation was dealt with and there was no need to evacuate.

A Fire Investigator is following up on the situation today.
