An Alberta Clipper has moved into Saskatchewan on a wave of strong winds and snow that has abruptly turned to colder weather.  And it will get colder still.

A winter storm watch is still in place for southern Saskatchewan. If you use the Trans Canada as the demarcation line, it’s for everywhere along and south of that. In east central Saskatchewan including Hudson Bay, Porcupine Plain, Melfort, Tisdale, Nipawin, Kamsack, Canora and Preeceville, the heavy snowfall warning in place right now is expected to end as the bulk of the snow tapers off later this morning. There are also extreme cold warnings in place for the far north.

Environment Canada’s Terri Lang had expected the bulk of the storm to take place overnight but the weather this morning is still expected to be significant.

“I think that’ll be the trickiest time.  I think the commute in the morning will be a bit nasty just because the snow will have ended but there will still be quite a bit of wind blowing it around.”
