Saskatoon’s first homicide of the year has now become a Saskatoon Police Service investigation into the first and second homicides of the year. The second victim from the homicide on Wednesday, 21 year old Phoenix Checkosis, has succumbed to his injuries.
A 20 year old man who was originally charged with second degree murder and attempted murder, is now charged with two counts of second degree murder. He appeared in court Thursday, and remains in custody.
Saskatoon Police responded to a home in the 400 block of Avenue B North on Wednesday, and found two people suffering from stab wounds – a 21 year old man and 19 year old woman. The woman later died in hospital, and now Checkosis has also died. The woman’s family has requested her name not be released.
