Evive Nutrition Incorporated is recalling its three batches of its Immunity Super Functional Smoothie due to raw elderberries. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the berries can release cyanide after being eaten. The body can process small amounts of cyanide, although large amounts can lead to poisoning or even death. The products were sold in 150-gram packages and were sold online. The recall was issued after consumers reported illnesses associated with the product.
The CFIA says they’re conducting a food safety review which could result in other products being recalled. The agency is also confirming that that affected products have been removed from the market.
