Proceeds of Crime are funding the purchase of new policing resources in the province.

According to a news release from the Government of Saskatchewan, The Criminal Property Forfeiture Fund will provide more than $755,000 to provincial police agencies and the Saskatchewan Victim’s Fund.

Over $366,000 will be used to purchase a camera system for the Regina Police Service Aerial support unit, An Advanced Acquisition Lab for the Saskatoon Police Service to conduct digital forensics and examine encrypted devices and a canine pup with associated training and equipment for the Weyburn Police Service.

A matching amount will be used to provide support to victims of crime through both the justice and law enforcement systems as well as community organizations.

Justice Minister and Attorney General Gordon Wyant say’s “This funding will be used to provide Saskatchewan Police with the tools they need to keep our communities safe and to provide important resources that support victims in our province.”

To date, approximately 6.3 million dollars in forfeited funds have been distributed to police operations, the Victims Fund and community operations.
