The results of a secret ballot vote held this morning (Wed) by Conservative MPs, are that the majority do not want Erin O’Toole as leader of the party. It was 73 against his leadership to 45 voting to keep him on. O’Toole posted on social media on Tuesday,prior to the vote, that he would accept the results, and the signers of the letter brought to the Conservative caucus must accept it too.
He says, “They brought it. They’ll have to live with it.” When trying to rally supporters on Twitter, O’Toole posted that he considers the split a choice of anger versus optimism. The party will now need to decide on an interim leader, while making arrangements for the third leadership vote since 2017.

This vote comes four months after the election loss to the Liberals. Conservative MP for Regina-Wascana, Michael Kram, thanks O’Toole for his dedication and service to the party and to the country. He notes there is a saying in politics that the voters are always right, the the MPs have decided to move the party in a new direction under a new leader. An interim leader will be selected by caucus. That’s expected to happen tonight (Wed). Then, a decision will have to be made on the timing of a vote of party members for a new leader.
