Highway 5 west of Wadena was closed for approximately six hours Wednesday evening after a semi rolled. It was carrying livestock.

The Wadena Fire Department says it was called out around 4 p.m. along with Shamrock Ambulance and the RCMP.  Fire officials say the semi pulling the livestock trailer had entered the north ditch and rolled.

The driver was taken to hospital for treatment while the Emergency Livestock Rescue was called in from Humboldt to help recover the animals.

The highway was closed down to one lane with the temperatures dropping to -34 degrees Celsius during the operation.

The Wadena Fire Department also thanked Quill Lake Colony for the use of the loading chute.
