As of Friday afternoon, 70 per cent of the snow piles on Saskatoon’s Priority 1 streets had been hauled away. The City says due to the unusual delay in the removal, contractors are being hired to help haul away more snow beginning next week.

Director of Roadways, Goran Saric, explains snow piles along the busiest streets remain after a snowfall, because the idea is to get them all graded first. Removing them requires different equipment and is best done at night when there is less traffic, so its safer for workers and the public.

He says the snow piles are unusually large this year because of the above average number of snowfalls. Every time it snows, the snow removal is postponed while road crews move back to plowing the streets.
