Saskatoon Police say they continue to field calls regarding reports of a family emergency scam. In a news release, police say the scam often includes a potential victim receiving a phone call from someone claiming to be a family member in distress requiring money for bail or hospital bills. The caller is then directed to send money using a courier company to an address outside of the province. Police say the victim may also be directed to other people claiming to be a police officer, lawyer or a bail officer. The SPS says they will never make requests of this kind. If you suspect fraud, contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre or if you’ve been a victim, report it to police.
