The City of Saskatoon and Saskatoon Cycles are hoping to entice new cyclers on the roads with BYXE (bikes) week which runs through Family Day, next Monday.
Senior Transportation Engineer, Nathalie Baudais says there are more winter cyclists out there than you might think.
“You might not see them. They might not be out when you are out on the road, but there are quite a few winter cyclists out there and it has been increasing over the years.”
She notes that the increase has been more increase since phat bikes were introduced. They are the bikes with the wide wheels.
There is a virtual scavenger hunt with chances to win prizes from local businesses, and winter bike tips on the BYXE Week Facebook page.
Baudais (boe dah) says the City and Saskatoon Cycles hope the event inspires more people to think of cycling as a regular means of transportation, as well as a form of recreation.
