While border blockades have ended, protesters continue to clog Ottawa’s downtown. Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland says part of the action they are taking through the Emergencies Act is tracking financial information of protesters.
She warns that if your truck is being used in the protests, your corporate accounts will be frozen, and the insurance on your vehicle will be suspended. “The consequences are real and they will bite.” Chrystia explains that there are safeguards in place, and she assures Canadians that the government, law enforcement and financial service providers have been working on this “very carefully.”
Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino says border crossings have reopened, but protesters trying to block the Ambassador bridge again between Windsor and Detroit were thwarted by police. He says the impact it would have for it to be closed cannot be overstated, because it’s the busiest trade corridor in Canada. (CJGX)
