SaskPower is sending out notice that it plans to string power lines over Circle Drive near the Preston Crossing open air shopping centre on Family Day weekend.

The Crown corporation is aiming to do the work when traffic volumes are lower in hopes of minimizing traffic impacts and that being said, intermittent traffic delays will be necessary.

SaskPower says noise, dust and traffic impacts will occasionally occur in the area until construction is complete in May 2022.

The 20 million dollar power line is part of upgrading the Preston Crossing substation. Work on the line was delayed as they went through the process again of getting a subcontractor. That happened late last year.

The project will allow SaskPower to meet the growing demand for power in the areas served by the substation, including the University of Saskatchewan.

Work on the transmission lines begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Access to and from Circle Drive to Attridge Drive will be maintained for the duration of the project. Detours will be in place guiding motorists around the work zone and drivers will be required to slow down to 60km/h. This project is expected to take eight hours to complete.

Moving project restrictions on Circle Drive at the Train Bridge include:

Phase 1: Circle Drive northbound curb lanes will be closed early morning
Phase 2: Circle Drive northbound and southbound median lanes will be closed mid-morning to mid-afternoon
Phase 3: Circle Drive southbound curb lanes will be closed in the afternoon
