The Edmonton Oil Kings gained their revenge on the Saskatoon Blades Saturday night…and then some!
Dylan Guenther scored four times while the W-H-L’s Eastern C0nference leaders scored a pair of deflating first period short-handed goals on the way to waffling the Bridge City Bunch 9-1. The result came 15 days after the Blue and Gold had humbled Edmonton 6-1 at SaskTel Centre, despite the Oil Kings out-shooting the Blades 39-16 and out-chancing them by about a 3-to-1 margin. On Saturday, Edmonton out-shot Saskatoon 48-17, and made good on their chances, chasing Bridge City Bunch goaltender Nolan Maier with six goals before the end of the second period, then piling three more past Ethan Chadwick in the third. Jaxsen Wiebe opened the scoring with a short-handed tally and Logan Dowhaniuk answered Trevor Wong’s power play marker with a 4-on-5 goal just 26 seconds later. Meanwhile, Guenther displayed the offensive talents that led to him being a first round pick of the Arizona Coyotes in the 2021 N-H-L Draft, mixing in his goals throughout the contest. The victory for the 35-11-3 Oil Kings was their fifth straight since the setback in Saskatoon and improved their record at Rogers Place to 22-2-0. The Blue and Gold dropped to 26-18-2 and are 0-2-0 to start their season-longest five-game road trip with a third contest in three days on Sunday in Calgary. The broadcast on CJWW starts at 4:30 with the play-by-play at 5 p.m. Following is the official game summary courtesy the W-H-L and Les Lazaruk’s Post-Game Show interview with Blades head coach Brennan Sonne…..
