SGI is introducing an option that allows a Saskatchewan resident to choose to have no designation of sex on licences and identification.

You can ask that the field for identifying gender on driver’s licenses and SGI-issued photo I-D be left blank.

So the indicators available are now to be left blank or to have M, F, or X which means unspecified.

Chief Operating Officer of the Auto Fund, Penny McCune says, “The option to have no sex designation on identification and licences is part of SGI’s commitment to inclusiveness,”

This option will be available for all customers of any age upon request. No documentation will be required to remove the sex designation and there will be no charge for making this change to a driver’s licence or photo identification card. Customers simply need to visit a motor licence issuer and request the change.

SGI does remind Saskatchewan residents that it cannot guarantee a Saskatchewan-issued driver’s licence or photo identification card with either the “X” (Unspecified) sex designation or no sex (blank) designation will be accepted by other organizations, in Canada or internationally.
