The Deputy Leader of Saskatchewan’s Official Opposition believes invoking the Emergencies should have been more regional, rather than blanketing the country. Nicole Sarauer says a section of the Act allows for it to be applied in specific regions, and that’s the option the NDP believes the federal government should have chosen. She adds that this first use of the now revoked Emergencies Act is precedent setting and will have implications moving forward.
Sarauer also accuses the Premier of playing politics. She says he was asked on national television about the illegal border blockades and his response was that it’s not up to him whether they should or shouldn’t, but it certainly would give them a lot of attention.
Sarauer says another example of the Premier’s political posturing is Scott Moe suggesting this province should take the federal government to court because of invoking the Emergencies Act. She calls on the Premier to take action which can serve Saskatchewan and gives the example of hospitals in Saskatchewan which can’t open because there isn’t enough staff.
