Saskatoon Police say they responded to a call shortly before seven last night (Thurs) of three men walking in the area of the 1600 block of 20th Street West armed with bear mace.

Patrol officers spotted suspects who fled when an arrest was attempted.

A 27 year old man was quickly taken into custody and police allege he had a modified firearm on him. The second suspect ran into a nearby businesses and reportedly turned on the officer with bear mace in his hand. A CEW or Conducted Energy Weapon was deployed without effect and the suspect was able to get away.

A third suspect also fled the area. The 27 year old man is charged with weapon dangerous, carry concealed weapon, possession of methamphetamine, and various breaches of court orders.

Police are reviewing video surveillance in an effort to identify the remaining suspects. Anyone with information is asked to contact Saskatoon Police or Crime Stoppers.

Meanwhile, Saskatoon Police say a 42 year old man is facing charges of assaulting a police officer and cause a disturbance after he allegedly spat in the face of an officer.

Police were called out to the 200 block of 2nd Avenue South a few minutes after nine last night to a complaint of a man refusing to leave a bar in the area.  Officers spotted the suspect walking away when they arrived, took him into custody, and as he was being placed in the back seat of the police cruiser he allegedly spit in the face of one of the officers.
