The work for the Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation Unit continues to rise every year, going for 186 files in 2020 to 853 in 2021. The ICE Unit has released statistics from the past year. From the 853 investigations, there were 97 charges.

The largest number were for possession of child pornography followed by transmitting, making available and distributing child porn. Also on the list, luring a child, accessing child porn, beach of conditions, and bestiality.

In a news release the ICE Unit states that it receives files from national programs, police agencies and from searching online. The growth can also be attributed to more reporting from the public as awareness grows.

Provincial Coordinator for the Saskatchewan ICE Unit, Staff Sgt. Shawn Stubbs, says the dedication of the members is to be commended. “They work through horrendous files and approach each case with compassion and professionalism.” He adds that they care about the safety of the children and it shows through their dedication.
