Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada has sent about $1-billion in financial assistance and humanitarian aid to Ukraine in response to Russia’s invasion. He spoke in London, England today (Mon), after a meeting with his counterparts from Britain and Denmark. Canada has added sanctions on ten more political and business leaders in Russia.

Trudeau says the sanctions put increased pressure on Russia’s leadership, including Vladimir Putin’s inner circle. That’s in addition to all other sanctions formerly announced, including massive tariffs on Russia and Belarusian imports. He believes these actions show the world can push back.

Trudeau says, Russia, and Putin specifically, cannot overthrow the over 75 years of peace and stability, and still benefit from the economic largess and growth that comes with that. The three Prime Ministers, Trudeau, Boris Johnson and Mark Rutte, announced forming an International Ukraine Support Group, and they are inviting other countries to join in. (with files from CJGX)
