A day after addressing a joint session of Parliament, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke to a joint session of the U.S Congress.

Speaking through a translator, and as he did yesterday, he asked for a no-fly zone.

“If this is too much to ask, we offer an alternative. You know what kind of defence systems we need.”

Zelenskyy also said the U.S. knows how much depends on the battlefield and the ability to use aircraft.  In addition, he called for new sanctions against all politicians in the Russian Federation.

“We propose that the United States sanctions all politicians in the Russian Federation who remain in their offices and do not cut ties with those who are responsible for aggression against Ukraine.”

Wrapping up his speech, Zelenskyy says as a world leader, the U.S should be a leader in peace.

“Peace in your country doesn’t depend anymore only on you and your people. It depends on those next to you and those who are strong.”

The President of Ukraine asked the U.S to help them fight.

“For human rights, for freedom, for the right to live peaceably and to die when your time comes, and not when it is wanted by someone else. By your neighbour.”

A 12 story apartment building was bombed this morning in Ukraine.

Yesterday evening, the prime ministers of Poland, Slovenia and the Czech Republic met Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala tweeted, “We know that you’re also fighting for our lives. You’re not alone, our countries stand by your side.”

They are the first Western leaders to visit Ukraine since Russia invaded.

The White House says US President Joe Biden will make his first visit to Europe since Russia invaded Ukraine to discuss the crisis with NATO allies next week.
