With the cost of living rising, making it more challenging to make ends meet, Saskatchewan’s Official Opposition is calling on the government to cut SGI’s rates for license plates. NDP Critic for SGI, Aleana Young, says, “The excess funds in the Rate Stabilization Reserve are Saskatchewan people’s money and it needs to be returned to them to help them weather the affordability crisis.” She explains the Auto Fund’s Capital Management Policy is to maintain a Minimum Capital Test of 140 per cent in the RSR, and as of December 31st, it was 181 per cent, with the Reserve at almost $1.29-billion, which she suggests is $300-million more than needed. The Official Opposition has launched its “Reduce the Rates!” petition calling on the Sask. Party government to stop overcharging Saskatchewan drivers for their insurance.
