As required by the R-C-M-P Act, Saskatchewan R-C-M-P has asked the Saskatoon Police Service to conduct an independent, external investigation into a March 17 incident in which an officer with the Swift Current Municipal R-C-M-P discharged their firearm, injuring a 23-year-old male from Swift Current, while responding to a report of an assault with a weapon.
At about 5:43 p.m. this past Thursday, Swift Current R-C-M-P responded to an apartment building on the 500 block of Robert Street East. The injured 23-year-old male was attended to first by Swift Current R-C-M-P before Swift Current E-M-S and Fire Services arrived and the male was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Saskatchewan R-C-M-P has also asked the Ministry of Justice appoint an independent investigation observer in accordance with Section 91.1 of the Saskatchewan Police Act.
