The Saskatoon Police Service is conducting an independent, external investigation into a Swift Current Municipal RCMP officer discharging a firearm on Thursday (March 17th). Swift Current RCMP responded to a report of an assault with a weapon in an apartment building just before 6 p.m.

After police arrived, a shot was fired and a 23 year old local man received what were reported to be non life threatening injuries. Damian Gavin is facing multiple charges including two counts of assault with a weapon, and one count each of assaulting a police officer and uttering threats.

The independent, external investigation into the circumstances surrounding the police officer-involved shooting is ongoing, and the RCMP has also asked the Ministry of Justice to appoint an independent investigation observer.
