Since Russian troops invaded Ukraine on February 24th, there have been negotiations between delegates from Russia and Ukraine, but President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Monday that Russia isn’t serious about peace. Russia had set a deadline of 5 a.m. Moscow time for Ukraine’s government to give up the port city of Mariupol, which Zelenskyy and his government ignored. It’s believed 300,000 people are trapped in the besieged city, and are low on supplies.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in Brussels, Belgium this Wednesday through Friday to meet with European Union, G7 and NATO leaders, building on the coordinated response to Russia’s attack on Ukraine. His first speaking engagement is Wednesday when he addresses the European Parliament.

A news release from the Prime Minister’s Office says on Thursday, Trudeau will meet with leaders from Allied countries at the NATO Summit to further coordinate support for Ukraine, and strengthening NATO’s deterrence and defence measures. He then attends the G7 Heads of State and Government meeting where the invasion of Ukraine will be discussed along with its wider global impacts, including food security and energy supply. The Prime Minister will also meet with the President of the European Commission.
