The Government of Saskatchewan says the potash sector hit record highs in 2021. Production reached 14.2 million tonnes and the value of sales was $7.6 billion.
Minister responsible Bronwyn Eyre says the industry directly employs 6,000 people.
In August 2021, BHP announced it was going to complete the Jansen potash mine for a total investment of $12 billion.
The government says Saskatchewan is the sole producer in Canada and as such typically accounts for about 30 per cent of world production which comes from ten mines operated in Saskatchewan by K+S Potash Canada, The Mosaic company and Nutrien Ltd.
