The annual ban on pruning elm trees in Saskatchewan begins next Friday, April 1st and runs through the end of August.
The province says it’s illegal to prune elm trees during that time to help stop the spread of Dutch elm disease.
The tiny elm bark beatles that spread the disease become more active as the weather warms up and fresh cuts on the trees can attract insects, making an infection more likely.
To prevent the spread of Dutch Elm Disease, as well as other insects and diseases, it is illegal to use, transport, store or sell elm firewood.
