The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed the University of Cincinnati’s all-time leading punter in James Smith. The Australian was signed as an undrafted free agent by the NFL’s Tennessee Titans in 2021 and tried out for the Baltimore Ravens in October. Smith played 49 collegiate games over four seasons, becoming Cincinnati’s all-time leading punter and four-time all-conference player.
The 27-year-old kicked 64 times for a 42-yards-per-kick average as a true freshman in college in 2017. He left Cincinnati with 235 punts for 10245 yards and just three touchbacks. In his career, Smith made a total of 91 punts inside the 20 and 43 of his kicks sailed for over 50 yards.
