Hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Saskatchewan have reached an all-time high with 417 receiving care.
The previous record was 410 admissions in mid-February.
Of the 417 in hospital, 25 are in intensive care. That’s the same number from last week’s update.
There were 22 new deaths in Thursday’s update. Thirteen of the new deaths occurred during the week of April 10th to the 16th. Eight took place in previous weeks and there’s been no time given for one of the deaths.
Three of the new deaths were people 69 and younger. The rest were those 70 and older.
Meanwhile Saskatchewan reported 890 new COVID-19 lab confirmed cases.
The provincial government has also announced that a new COVID treatment option is available. Remdesivir, an intravenous antiviral that stops the virus from multiplying in cells and can reduce the likelihood of hospitalization, will be available on an outpatient basis.
People who are eligible for the treatment include those who are immunocompromised and adults who are not fully vaccinated.
It appears Saskatchewan vaccine boost rate has stalled at just under 52 percent.
