Both hospitalizations and ICU admissions for COVID-19 are down this week in Saskatchewan. The province is reporting 409 people in hospital as of Wednesday, down from 417 the week prior. ICU admissions are down five to 20. Fourteen new virus-related deaths were included in the weekly update.
There were 829 new lab confirmed cases of the virus this week in the province. That reflects 0.7 cases per 1,000 residents.
The province also announced that starting Saturday, April 30th, the AstraZeneca vaccine won’t be available any more in Saskatchewan. That’s because the federal government won’t procuring anymore doses of that vaccine. If you’re looking to get a jab of the AstraZeneca vaccine to complete your primary two doses or your booster shot, the province urges you to call the health authority’s SaskVax line immediately to book your appointment.
Also effective immediately, the eligibility for Paxlovid treatment will be extended to all those who test positive via a PCR or rapid test with mild or moderate COVID-19 symptoms who are immunocompromised or 70 years and older with designated risk factors, regardless of vaccination status. This is in addition to adults who are 18-54 years of age and are not fully vaccinated with a medical condition that puts them at high risk for severe outcomes, or are 55 to 69 years of age and
are not fully vaccinated.
