The Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority of Saskatchewan is warning investors about the online trading platform AIG Markets. The FCAA says the company claims to offer an opportunity to invest and trade through its website, but it is not registered to sell or trade securities or derivatives in Saskatchewan.
Also, there is already a well-known finance and insurance company named American International Group or AIG, but that is not this company.
The FCAA’s Dean Murrison urges investors and consumers to not send money to companies that aren’t registered in Saskatchewan because they may not be legitimate and you could lose your money. He advises that unregistered companies asking for offshore money transfers are often a scam.
Tips to protect yourself:
-Always verify that the person or company is registered to sell or advise about securities or derivatives. To check registration, visit The Canadian Securities Administrations’ National Registration Search.
-Know exactly what you are investing in. Make sure you understand how the investment, product, or service works.
Get a second opinion and seek professional advice about the investment.
