Saskatoon’s emergency test alert is today (Tues) at 1 and the provincial and national versions are tomorrow afternoon. The reason why all of these tests are happening is because this is Emergency Preparedness Week.

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency suggests that this week is a great time to think about what can happen to your home, property or family and take action to be prepared. SPSA President Marlo Pritchard says, “Natural disasters and extreme weather are often top of mind when we think about personal preparedness, but we need to prepare for other significant events, such as the ongoing pandemic, cyberattacks or other emergencies, too.”

The province’s alert system is SaskAlert. It provides critical information on emergencies in real time. There will be a test at about 1:55 on Wednesday afternoon. The province’s alerts are available on the SaskAlert website, through the app, and radio and TV will also issue critical alerts issued by federal, provincial and local alerting authorities.

The national alert called Alert Ready is also scheduled for tomorrow at 1:55, and it will be sent by TV, radio, and compatible wireless devices.
