A low pressure system brought rain, hail and two funnel cloud sightings to southeast Saskatchewan Saturday afternoon.
Jason Knight, a meteorologist with Environment Canada says the first funnel cloud was spotted near Indian Head at 1 o’clock followed by another 10 minutes later near Abernethy, Saskatchewan.
Knight says no funnel clouds touched the ground in Saskatchewan on Saturday.
Redvers reported the largest hail yesterday (sat) with golf ball sized hail. There was nickel sized hail in Antler and Estevan reported pea sized hail Saturday afternoon.
As for rain, the weather office says the system brought about 25mm to the Melfort and Hudson Bay areas as it carried on.
As of 8:30 Sunday morning, rain warnings remained in place for the far northeast parts of the province. Rain is expected to be heavy at times in those areas with 25 to 35mm expected in total.
The southeast corner of the province has been quite the hotspot for storms this spring. In addition to yesterday’s (sat) thunderstorms, the area has seen significant blizzards over the last few weeks.
As for the forecast Sunday, Knight says it will be a quieter day for severe weather activity. Over the next week, Knight says sporadic showers and thunderstorms are expected across the province.
