Damage is estimated at $50,000 dollars following a fire at a home in the 200 block of Avenue H South Friday afternoon.
Just before 3, the Saskatoon Fire Department received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting smoke coming from a house.
Fire crews made their way into the home at 3:10, where they encountered zero visibility along with heavy smoke and high heat. The basement was fully involved in flames according to a news release.
Firefighters then used a suppression tool that uses an aerosol system to help with extinguishing the blaze.
“It requires three to four minutes to work without water or ventilation being applied. This suppression tool interrupts the chemical chain reaction of fire by suppressing the flames and bringing down the heat. This tool does not completely extinguish the fire but changes the fire’s environment,” said the fire department in the news release.
The fire was finally brought under control at 4:28.
The fire investigator has determined there were no smoke alarms in place. An update will be provided once the investigation has concluded.
