Saskatoon Police say a 57-year-old man is facing a number of charges including assaulting a peace officer following an incident over the weekend on 20th Street.
Just before one in the morning on Saturday, police were called to an altercation at a building in the 500 block of 20th Street West. Two people ages 22 and 24 reported leaving their suite when a man from another apartment began harassing them and assaulting them. The man allegedly locked the exit, forcing the victims to flee to a nearby suite.
Once officers arrived to begin taking statements, the suspect approached them and began yelling. As police stood in a narrow hallway to de-escalate the man, the 57-year-old became more aggressive. Eventually the three ended up falling down the stairs. The man then began pulling equipment from the belt of one of the officers, breaking the belt eventually in the process. The man was then taken to hospital with serious injuries. Both officers are recovering from minor injuries.
The man faces numerous charges including two counts of assault.
