An officer with Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan took to Twitter this week to share a recent experience involving an unexpected temporary passenger.
The officer was driving down Highway 18 in extreme southern Saskatchewan just over a 100 kilometres southeast of Assiniboia when a fawn trotted out of the ditch, sees the police cruiser, lays on the highway and curls into a ball.
Obviously concerned that the fawn’s instinct when threatened will lead to it getting hit, and not seeing the mother anywhere nearby, the officer contacted Wildlife Rescue Society of Saskatchewan.

The advice given was to remove the fawn from the vehicle and put it in some bushes or tall grass near where it came from because its mom will call for it when she returns. And also rub dirt and grass on the fawn where it was touched to remove human scent.
WRSOS says babies in the wild such as deer and rabbits will be left for up to eight hours while the mothers search for food but the fawn must have been spooked from its original hiding spot.
