RCMP say a 57 year old man from the RM of Lajord has died in a collision between a CN train and a road maintenance vehicle at a level crossing west of Edgeley.

Edgeley is about 50 kilometres northeast of Regina.

The accident caused the CN train to go off the tracks and Fort Qu’appelle RCMP received word of a train derailment shortly after noon on Thursday.

Eighteen cars went off the tracks, there is a confirmed small spill of unknown content and there are no reports of any fires.

CN Police remain on the scene and will continue the investigation.
