Battleford RCMP responded to 595 calls for service in the last week of May, including 25 assault investigations, 17 break and enters, seven traffic accidents, and 17 vehicle thefts. One of the investigations was a report on May 25th of someone firing a gun near the townsite of the Saulteaux First Nation. Police say a 17 year old youth was located, and a firearm was recovered. He appears in court on July 14th, charged with careless use of a firearm and two counts of possession of a weapon contrary to a court order.
Another of the 595 calls for service was about a man who appeared intoxicated who was throwing milk in the street. This was last Sunday night around 6:30 p.m. The man was found in the 900 block of 110th Street in North Battleford, and it was determined he had warrants out of Alberta and British Columbia. Police say he was searched, and a small amount of suspected meth and a knife were seized. The 34 year old from Lloydminster is charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting arrest and possession of meth for the purpose of trafficking.
