More than half of the drivers pulled over on roadside checks during Canada Road Safety Week were issued charges by Saskatchewan RCMP officers.
According to the weekly Saskatchewan RCMP report, over two thousand charges were issued out of the 3,889 drivers with whom officers made contact with between May 17-23. A further breakdown of the charges, coming out of increased patrols and check stops set up across the province, saw 37 charges laid in respect to alcohol impairment, one charge due to drug impairment, 94 charges for distracted driving, 64 charges for seatbelt violations and 1,225 charges for speeding and/or aggressive driving. An additional 2,500 warnings were issued as Saskatchewan RCMP officers worked alongside municipal police partners and agencies.
