A small-town Saskatchewan mayor has been elected to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (F-C-M) board of directors.
The F-C-M announced that Torquay Mayor Mike Strachan (pictured) was been elected for a one-year term, from 2022 to 2023, at its recent annual meeting. Strachan has been serving the community of Torquay and its approximately 250 residents for more than 10 years, first elected to Torquay village council in 2009. In 2013, Strachan was elected to the SUMA Board of Directors as Southeast Regional Director and today he serves as SUMA’s Vice President of Villages, Resort Villages, and Northern Municipalities. The F-C-M has been the national voice of Canada’s municipal governments since 1901. Members include more than 2,000 municipalities from across the country, representing more than 92 per cent of the population.
