This is the last month, ever, students will sit in the desks at Princess Alexandra School. The site of the school in Riversdale was chosen as the location for the Saskatoon Public School division’s next school. While the new school is built, Princess Alexandra students will attend King George and the Spadina Early Learning Centre will be relocated to W.P. Bate School. All the teachers will also be deployed to other schools in the division.
Director Shane Skjerven says the architects are working with the design team as well as senior administration as well as the Board and the emphasis will be on having a school that is a reflection of the students who go there. He says they will have an emphasis are arts and culture and the early learning program is a big focus as well and ensuring the school building itself is indicative of the community it serves.
There are about 100 students at Princess Alexandra School impacted during the build and to help them ease into their new environment they will actually spend some time at King George school to end this school year, meeting some of their teachers and staff. Princess Alexandra school was an amalgamation of two previous schools and now it will amalgamate with King George and Pleasant Hill schools. There has been a school community on that site for 115 years. The new school will hold up to 500 students and until it is officially named is referred to as the City Centre Project.
The last day students will attend class is June 29th and all former staff at Princess Alexandra had an opportunity to go back June 1st to see the building before it closes, as well, there is a community barbeque this month.
