The City of Saskatoon’s planning and development committee will hear from those working towards an open air soccer stadium proposed at Prairieland Park.
Last week, hundreds gathered for a news conference to showcase what the new stadium may look like which would be built where Marquis Downs currently exists.
It’s not clear how much the group may ask the City to contribute to the project. In past years, the City of Saskatoon has partnered with other groups on sporting facilities such as Merlis Belsher Place and the Gordie Howe Sports Complex.
Living Sky Sports and Entertainment has started a fundraising initiative to help raise funds for the estimated $24 to $34 million dollars needed to convert the facility from a race track into a pro soccer stadium.
The idea is to have a Canada Premier League soccer team be the anchor tenant of the facility which would also be able to host concerts. The group from Prairieland and Living Sky will make their presentation this morning (mon) at City Hall.
Also going before the same committee today will be dedicated dog parks for small dogs. A report today (mon) outlines plans for a half acre extension of the Hyde Dog Park in Rosewood and that one acre in Charlottetown Park in the Massey neighbourhood be set aside for small dogs only.
City administration says over the past several years, they have received numerous requests for dedicated space for small dogs with concerns surrounding pet and owner safety.
The price tag associated with establishing the two small-dog parks is $95,000 dollars.
