Shades of last summer’s hot and windy conditions.
Today (sat) is going to be a hot and windy day for Saskatoon and many other communities throughout the province.
As of Saturday morning, Moose Jaw, Weyburn, Estevan, Swift Current, The Battlefords and Watrous were among the communities listed under a heat warning. In Saskatoon, the mercury is expected to hit 36 and with the humidity, it will fell more like 40 degrees.
Wind gusts of up to 50 kilometres and hour are also expected for Saskatoon today.
With the heat, Environment Canada meteorologist, Kyle McAulay says today could be a record setting day for highs across Saskatchewan including Saskatoon.
“I see a record for June 18th in Saskatoon of a high of 36.0 in 1995.”
He also says the warm weather could bring some severe weather, particularly in areas north of Saskatoon.
“There’s a slightly higher risk for some severe thunderstorms just to the north of Saskatoon in the Prince Albert and Battleford. There’s a small possibility of a tornado even this afternoon or into the evening. So definitely keep an eye on the forecast.”
Tomorrow (sun) the weather will return to more seasonal temperatures with a high of 25 expected for Saskatoon. Regina will also see some heat today as well with a high of 35 expected. The humidity there will make it feel closer to 37.
According to a Twitter page titled Regina Weather Records that compiles weather data in Regina, today could be the muggiest day in the Queen City in almost two years.

The weather system bringing the heat that came up from the United States will move eastwards into Manitoba, therefore bringing the more seasonal temperatures back to Saskatchewan on Sunday.
