The City of Saskatoon says water has receded from flooded streets and most intersections were clear for Tuesday’s commute after the rain event Monday but there are barricades in a few areas in the southeast which are expected to be removed by the end of the day.

The city says its infrastructure is keeping up with yesterday’s flood water but the system needs several days to recover from the upwards of 75 millimetres which came down in a short time period in some areas of Saskatoon. In addition more rain is in the forecast and the City of Saskatoon is asking residents to help by not running washing machines, dishwashers or flushing toilets unless absolutely necessary.

Only one neighbourhood’s waste collection was impacted by the rain and that was in Avalon so leave your garbage bin out because drivers will return Wednesday to empty them.

The Transit terminal at Market Mall is inaccessible right now because of detours in the area.

Lions Arena is not open and at Lawson Civic Centre the pool is open but the fitness room remains closed, both due to water seepage.

The City says dry storm ponds worked as intended like the one at WW Ashley Park which was recently completed as part of the City’s Flood Control Strategy. Dry storm ponds are designed to hold water that would otherwise cause nearby flooding during intense rainfalls. The water flows from properties and roads into the dry storm pond, then slowly drains into the storm sewer.
