SGI says there were 328 drivers caught after drinking or consuming drugs in May.
Last month, law enforcement in the province were focusing on impaired drivers and SGI reminds motorists that while cannabis may be legal, you can’t drive after consuming it.
Among the 328 drivers pulled over there were 208 Criminal Code charges and 120 administrative licence suspensions.
SGI notes that there is zero tolerance for drug-impaired driving in Saskatchewan and police use roadside testing devices and standardized field sobriety tests to find drivers under the influence of drugs. With alcohol, consequences start when an experienced driver exceeds .04 blood alcohol concentration; new drivers aren’t allowed any alcohol whatsoever.
Also in May, 6,112 drivers were ticketed for speeding for driving aggressively, 406 tickets were issued for not wearing a seatbelt, wearing it incorrectly or not having children properly restrained. There were 748 distracted drivers which included 655 using a mobile device.
