The City of Saskatoon is looking to add a dedicated outdoor space for relatives staying at the Saskatoon Tribal Council’s downtown Wellness Centre.
A report heading to City Council today (mon) states there have been multiple nuisance complaints from local residents and business owners in the downtown about the activities taking place directly outside of the Wellness Centre, particularly in sidewalks and lanes.
The report lists three different areas for a potential outdoor gathering spot. That includes the Midtown Plaza parking lot located west of the shelter, an undetermined off-site location and parking spots located right in front of the Wellness Centre on 1st Avenue North.
The 1st Avenue location is still under review and requires further conversations with the STC. The City of Saskatoon’s safety committee has discussed the idea with the City of Vancouver where similar spaces have been set up.
City Council will discuss the topic during today’s (mon) regular business meeting at 1 o’clock.
