BC’s NDP Premier has decided not to seek a third term leading the province and is stepping down prior to the next election.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he thanks Premier John Horgan for his over 17 years of dedicated public service. He will be missed at the First Ministers’ table. I wish him and his family the very best in the future.”

In a statement yesterday Horgan said, “Being the Premier of BC is not a job I ever expected, but it’s been the honour of my life.”

Horgan says he just beat a second round of cancer and dozens of radiation treatments for throat cancer has led to his decision to make the call not to run in the next election. Horgan will stay on as premier until his successor is chosen.
